One of Toronto’s most iconic outdoor music venues is about to get a dramatic makeover. As part of the Ontario Place revitalization project, the Budweiser Stage amphitheatre is being transformed into a futuristic, year-round concert space that will dramatically reshape live entertainment on the waterfront.
Unveiled by the Ontario government this week, the final designs reveal a cutting-edge amphitheatre that promises to accommodate more guests, support all-season programming, and anchor the site’s larger cultural revival.
What the New Venue Will Look Like
The redesigned Budweiser Stage will be able to host up to 20,000 guests during the summer and nearly 9,000 indoors during the winter. That flexibility turns the venue into a hybrid space for concerts and events throughout the entire year.
Renderings reveal a sleek new east side entrance, updated pavilions, and a surrounding area that ties into the larger Ontario Place plan. The upgraded site will include public trails, expanded green space, and beachfront access. There will also be a new marina and updated playgrounds that aim to make Ontario Place a destination for more than just music fans.
A New Era for Live Music in Toronto
Live Nation Canada, which operates the venue, called the upgrade a major step forward for entertainment in the city. Wayne Zronik, President of Business Operations for Live Nation Canada, emphasized how the investment will help support artists, create jobs, and continue the legacy of the space as a hub for Canadian and international talent.
Once the venue is complete, it’s expected to welcome up to one million guests per year and support over 900 jobs tied to events and operations. That makes it one of the largest and most economically impactful venues in the country.
What Else Is Coming to Ontario Place
A new Ontario Science Centre
A massive publicly owned parking structure
The controversial Therme Canada spa and wellness complex
Over 50 acres of green space, public trails, and beach areas
While the redevelopment has drawn mixed reactions from the public and city leaders, the investment in updated public space and entertainment infrastructure suggests a big shift for the long-term vision of Ontario Place.
Final Thoughts
From open-air concerts to cozy winter shows, the new Budweiser Stage aims to keep Toronto dancing no matter the season. With renderings now released and plans moving forward, Ontario Place is poised to become a futuristic cultural and entertainment hub on the waterfront.
Stay tuned as the city gears up for a whole new kind of concert experience.
